The Lagos State government has announced a six-week closure of sections of Apongbon Bridge to allow the Federal Ministry of Works carry out urgent repairs, a move that will significantly affect traffic flow around Inner Marina and the Central Business District.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who said the repairs would focus on failed asphalt sections along the service lane and key portions of the bridge on both inbound and outbound routes.
The work is scheduled to begin on February 5 and run until March 19, starting with the service lane that links Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge.
Osiyemi said sections of the affected roads would be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of motorists and allow construction teams to work efficiently.

According to him, motorists approaching from Inner Marina toward Apongbon Bridge are expected to use the under-bridge roundabout, connect to Adeniji Adele Road, continue through Ebute Ero, and access the ramp leading to Apongbon/Eko Bridge. Traffic from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island will also connect their journeys through Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge.

For the rehabilitation of the main carriageway, motorists from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island will ramp down at the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout near UBA, proceed through Inner Marina, and connect with the service lane to continue toward Eko Bridge.
Osiyemi said once work on the inbound section is completed, construction activities will shift to the outbound side of Apongbon Bridge.
Motorists heading from Eko Bridge toward Inner Marina will be diverted through Ebute Ero Ramp, Adeniji Adele Road, and the under-bridge roundabout, while traffic heading to Outer Marina, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will maintain movement on Apongbon Bridge.

He urged residents to exercise patience and comply with traffic management instructions during the period, noting that the temporary inconvenience was necessary to ensure the successful completion of the repair works and improve road safety in the area.
