FG Says Power Supply Improving After Repair of Vandalized Gas Pipeline

The Federal Government has announced an improvement in electricity generation nationwide following the repair of the vandalized Lagos–Escravos gas supply pipeline.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) disclosed that the restoration of the gas infrastructure has boosted gas supply to several key thermal power plants across the country, coming after weeks of complaints over poor electricity supply.

According to NISO, the repair was carried out by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) and has enabled affected plants to begin a gradual return to operation.

Power offtake, the operator said, is being ramped up in phases to avoid pressure on the gas supply network and the national grid.

Gradual recovery to protect national grid

NISO explained that the phased restoration is designed to ensure grid stability while meeting electricity demand from households, businesses, and industries.

The operator said other thermal power plants are currently on standby and will be connected to the national grid once gas supply is confirmed by their respective suppliers.

It added that integrating these plants will further strengthen generation capacity and reduce the risk of power outages across the country.

NISO noted that it is working closely with power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory agencies to monitor developments and address operational challenges in real time.

While reaffirming its commitment to sustaining the improvement, the operator urged electricity consumers to continue practicing energy conservation as efforts to fully stabilize power supply continue.
