Oladipupo Adebutu, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has formally declared his intention to contest the state’s top office again in the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was conveyed in a letter dated April 30, 2026, and addressed to the Ogun State chairman of the PDP through the party’s Odogbolu Local Government chapter, where Adebutu is registered as a member of Ward 4. The move signals an early start to political alignments ahead of the next electoral cycle in the state.

In the letter, Adebutu notified the party’s State Working Committee of his decision to seek the governorship ticket, stating that he would run on the PDP platform. He reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s constitution and internal processes, describing himself as a law-abiding and loyal member.

Adebutu, who flew the PDP flag in the 2023 governorship election, said his renewed ambition is driven by a desire to offer purposeful leadership and advance development in Ogun State. He assured party leaders and members that he would adhere strictly to laid-down procedures throughout the primary and campaign processes.

“As a law-abiding citizen and loyal member of the party, I shall continue to abide by the provisions of our party constitution and the outlined processes of the party on this journey,” he said, expressing confidence that the PDP can secure victory in the 2027 elections.

PDP’s Stance

Beyond his personal ambition, the PDP chieftain placed strong emphasis on party unity, urging stakeholders to remain focused and avoid internal divisions that could weaken the party’s chances at the polls. He stressed that cohesion within the party would be critical to building a competitive front against political rivals in the state.

Adebutu also signalled a conciliatory approach, stating his willingness to collaborate with different factions and interest groups within the PDP. According to him, collective effort and alignment around a shared goal would be key to repositioning the party for electoral success.
