Southampton FC secured a dramatic 1–0 victory over Fulham FC to book a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The fifth-round clash at Craven Cottage in London appeared headed for extra time before a stoppage-time penalty sealed the win for the Championship side.
Southampton’s breakthrough came in the first minute of added time when Ross Stewart calmly converted from the spot after a foul inside the penalty area.
The decisive moment followed a challenge by Fulham defender Joachim Andersen on Southampton midfielder Finn Azaz. Stewart stepped up and fired the penalty past goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte to secure the upset.
The defeat was a disappointing outcome for Fulham manager Marco Silva, whose decision to rotate his squad failed to deliver the desired result.
Silva made nine changes to the Fulham lineup following their recent Premier League defeat to West Ham United earlier in the week.
However, the reshuffled side struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Southampton team that remained organised throughout the contest.

The loss marked a frustrating afternoon for the Premier League side, who were widely expected to progress against opponents currently competing in the EFL Championship.
For Southampton, the victory represents a significant milestone, as it is the club’s first appearance in the FA Cup quarter-finals since 2022.
The win also carried symbolic importance for Southampton players, who wore a special yellow kit during the match to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the club’s famous 1976 FA Cup triumph.
That historic victory saw second-tier Southampton defeat Manchester United in the final at Wembley Stadium, with Bobby Stokes scoring the decisive goal.
While the current squad still has work to do to match that achievement, the team managed by Tonda Eckert has built strong momentum in recent weeks.

Southampton are now unbeaten in 10 matches across all competitions as they pursue both FA Cup success and a push for the Championship play-off places.
