Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide vehicles for women leaders in their respective states as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and reward their contributions to party development.
Mrs Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a pro-Tinubu support group, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Addressing party members and stakeholders at the event, the First Lady announced the donation of vehicles to APC women leaders in states where the party does not currently control the governorship.
She said the vehicles would be delivered before the end of the week and stressed that they would belong to the beneficiaries personally rather than the party.
“To all our women leaders in states where we do not have APC governors but have committed party members, your vehicles will be ready before the end of the week,” she said.
“The vehicles are your personal vehicles. You are not giving them to the party. Register them in your names and use them for the service of the party and your communities.”
According to Mrs Tinubu, beneficiaries include APC women leaders from Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Oyo states.
She subsequently urged APC governors across the country to emulate the gesture by purchasing vehicles and providing additional support for women leaders in their states.
“This is how we want our women to be treated. I urge our governors to buy vehicles for their women leaders. We are not playing politics like before. We are politicians, and people should see the value in us,” she added.
The First Lady said women remain central to the APC’s vision of inclusive governance, noting that they continue to play critical roles in grassroots mobilisation, voter engagement and party-building efforts across the country.

Mrs Tinubu also formally inaugurated the Tinubu Torchbearers, describing the organisation as a strategic platform designed to mobilise support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen citizen participation nationwide.
She urged members of the group to serve as ambassadors of the administration by promoting government policies responsibly and maintaining civility in political engagements.
The First Lady further commended the APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile Idele, and members of the newly inaugurated group for their commitment to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She said the APC had demonstrated democratic maturity through the peaceful conduct of its recent primaries, adding that the ruling party had become an example of how politics could be practised without bitterness.
“Our party has shown the rest of the country that there can be democracy without bitterness. The APC is now the party that shows how to play politics without bitterness,” she said.
Speaking at the event, Idele described the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers as a strategic step toward strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to her, the organisation has already established structures across all 774 local government areas of the country and is positioned to support voter education, advocacy and citizen engagement.
She called on women across Nigeria to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing women as the backbone of every successful political movement.
“I urge every woman here today to take up the torch of Renewed Hope and carry it to your homes, wards, polling units and communities. Let us engage our neighbours, support our communities, enlighten our citizens and strengthen our grassroots structures,” she said.
Idele also praised President Tinubu’s administration for its economic reforms, infrastructure development, social investment programmes and security initiatives, while commending the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting women, youths, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The event attracted APC stakeholders, women leaders, youth representatives, elected officials and party members from across the federation, underscoring the growing political activities within the ruling party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
