The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) during the weekend shut down seven courier and logistics companies in Abuja for operating without licences.

According to The Nation, Postmaster General/NIPOST’s CEO, Dr Ismail Adewusi said the clampdown started in Lagos and it is to ensure sanity in the industry.
Adewusi added that the illegal operators across the country are economic sabotage and lack respect for Nigerian Constitution.

He also assured that those Nigerians arrested would be further investigated and prosecuted if found culpable.

It was gathered that the NIPOST’s Head of Enforcement and Assistant General Manager in charge of Ethics, Complaints and Strategy, Mr Banks Worimegbe, in a session with reporters in Abuja said the “illegal operators” were shut down after diligent investigations and discovered that they were operating without licences.
Worimegbe also alleged that six other illegal courier operators had been discovered operating without a licence and had been recorded to be shut down.
According to him, illegal operators are not only economic saboteurs but security risks to individuals, institutions and the country.
