Mahmud Abubakar, the Sonfada of the Etsu Nupe, has died, prompting mourning across Niger State and the wider Nupe kingdom.
The news was confirmed in a condolence message issued by Governor Umaru Bago, who described the development as a “colossal loss” to the traditional institution, the Bida Emirate, and the entire state.
In the statement released on Sunday through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor extended sympathies to the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, and the immediate family of the deceased.
Bago noted that the late Sonfada contributed significantly to the development of the Nupe kingdom and Niger State, adding that his legacy would be remembered for years to come.
He also urged the family to remain steadfast in prayers and to take solace in the deceased’s service to humanity.
The governor prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late traditional titleholder and grant him eternal rest in Aljanat Firdaus.
