The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed shock and sadness over the death of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who reportedly collapsed during a local match in Kaduna.
Eneramo, 40, was said to have suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after the start of the second half while playing in a friendly game in Ungwan Yelwa on Friday morning.
Reacting to the development, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi described the incident as devastating, saying the football community had lost one of its own.
“This is devastating. I am short of words at this moment,” he said, while offering prayers for the late player and strength for his family.
Eneramo earned 10 caps for Nigeria and made his international debut in 2009 in a friendly against Jamaica.
He scored his first goal for the national team later that year against the Republic of Ireland and was part of Nigeria’s squad during the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, where he notably scored against Tunisia in Abuja.

At the club level, Eneramo enjoyed a well-travelled career across Africa and Europe. He rose to prominence with Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he became a fan favourite and earned the nickname “Al Dababa” (The Tank).
He later played in Turkey for clubs including Beşiktaş J.K., Sivasspor, and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community, with tributes expected from former teammates, clubs, and fans in the coming days.
Eneramo is remembered for his physical playing style, key goals for club and country, and contributions during a pivotal period for Nigerian football.
