Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The actor announced that he will run for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on his decision to enter the race, Ike said he hopes to contribute to national development by promoting what he described as a proper systematic structure capable of improving governance and bringing development closer to the people.
“I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja,” he said.
“We want to make a statement. I want to step into the real thing right now if I have made you, Nigerians, happy. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you.”
He also urged Nigerians to challenge politicians who believe they hold absolute power, saying, “Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand they will run.”
In a video circulating online, the actor was seen receiving his nomination form from a party official.
A member of Ike’s campaign team also disclosed that the Nollywood star has already emerged victorious in the NDC primaries and is now preparing for the 2027 elections.
This marks Ike’s return to active politics after his earlier attempt to secure a legislative seat in 2018 under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), where he contested to represent Ideato South Local Government Area in the House of Representatives.
Ike’s latest political move adds to the growing number of Nigerian entertainers showing interest in elective positions ahead of the 2027 polls.
Filmmaker Fidelis Duker had earlier announced his intention to contest for a House of Representatives seat in Cross River State under the NDC platform.
Emeka Ike rose to prominence after starring in the 1994 film Deadly Affair and has since featured alongside several Nollywood stars including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Kate Henshaw, Jim Iyke, and Ramsey Nouah.
After taking a long break from acting, the actor returned to the screen in 2023 with a role in Malaika produced by Toyin Abraham.
