LOS GATOS, California — Netflix has disclosed that it paid $587 million in cash to acquire InterPositive, the artificial intelligence filmmaking startup co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck.
The purchase price was revealed in a recent regulatory filing, months after the streaming giant announced the acquisition in March without disclosing its financial terms.
At the time of the announcement, Affleck said the partnership was aimed at preserving creative storytelling while using artificial intelligence to support filmmakers.
According to Affleck, InterPositive’s AI-powered tools are designed to help filmmakers enhance footage during post-production rather than replace the creative process.
He said the technology addresses practical production challenges, including missing shots, background replacements and incorrect lighting, allowing filmmakers to complete projects more efficiently while maintaining artistic quality.
Affleck described the company’s mission as one focused on “protecting the power of human creativity.”
Netflix previously announced that the entire InterPositive team would join the company as part of the acquisition.
Affleck also joined Netflix as a Senior Advisor, where he is expected to contribute to the company’s strategy on artificial intelligence and filmmaking technologies.
While Netflix initially withheld the financial details of the transaction, a Bloomberg report had estimated the deal could be worth as much as $600 million.
The disclosure comes as Netflix continues to increase its use of artificial intelligence across its production pipeline.
In its latest earnings report, the streaming platform said around 300 of its titles have already incorporated generative AI in some capacity.
The acquisition of InterPositive underscores Netflix’s broader investment in AI-assisted production tools as the company seeks to improve filmmaking efficiency while supporting content creators with advanced post-production technology.
