Apple is expected to unveil a major overhaul of its artificial intelligence strategy when its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 begins on Monday, June 8, as the technology giant seeks to address growing criticism over delays to its AI-powered Siri assistant.
The annual software-focused event comes at a pivotal moment for Apple, which has faced increasing competition from AI rivals and scrutiny over its failure to deliver several artificial intelligence features previously announced for its devices.
The keynote presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific Time (6:00 p.m. West Africa Time) and will be streamed globally through Apple’s official platforms.
One of the most anticipated announcements at WWDC 2026 is a redesigned Siri that is expected to offer more advanced conversational capabilities and deeper integration across Apple devices.
Reports indicate that the new Siri will be able to understand on-screen content, access information from apps such as Messages, Calendar, Photos and Contacts, and perform multi-step tasks across different applications.
The upgraded assistant is also expected to feature a standalone app for iPhone, iPad and Mac users, allowing text and voice interactions similar to existing AI chatbot platforms.
Industry reports have suggested that Apple has expanded its AI partnerships to strengthen Siri’s capabilities, though the company has not officially disclosed the full details of its AI infrastructure ahead of the conference.
Apple is also expected to introduce iOS 27, which analysts believe will prioritise system stability, performance improvements and battery optimisation.
The update is likely to refine the Liquid Glass design language introduced in previous versions while expanding artificial intelligence features across native applications.
Expected additions include AI-powered photo editing tools, enhanced visual recognition capabilities within the Camera app, intelligent tab management in Safari and more advanced automation through the Shortcuts application.
Reports suggest that iOS 27 could be limited to devices powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic chip and newer processors, potentially ending support for several older iPhone models.
Alongside iOS 27, Apple is expected to announce updates for macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS.
The new macOS version is expected to introduce the redesigned Siri experience, performance enhancements and further integration of artificial intelligence tools across Apple’s ecosystem.
For iPad users, Apple is reportedly focusing on improving the multitasking and window management features introduced in earlier software releases.
Meanwhile, watchOS is expected to deliver new health-tracking features and additional watch faces, while updates to tvOS and visionOS are likely to focus on interface refinements and AI integration.
Unlike some previous Apple events, WWDC 2026 is widely expected to focus exclusively on software.
The company has already launched several new products this year, including updated MacBook models and iPads, reducing expectations for any major hardware announcements during the conference.
Industry observers expect Apple to use the event primarily to demonstrate its renewed AI strategy and reassure users, developers and investors about its ability to compete in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence market.
Developer beta versions of the new software are expected to be released immediately after the keynote, while public beta testing is anticipated to begin in July. The final versions are expected to roll out globally alongside Apple’s next generation of devices later this year.
The conference also carries additional significance as it is expected to be the final WWDC keynote led by Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook before leadership changes scheduled for later this year.
