X suffers global outage as users report access problems

X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, experienced widespread access issues on Monday, leaving thousands of users unable to load the website or mobile app.

The disruption, which affected users across several countries, triggered a surge in complaints as people reported difficulties accessing their accounts, timelines, and other features. The outage raised fresh concerns about the platform’s stability and reliability, especially as millions depend on it for communication, news, and real-time updates.

Data from outage monitoring service DownDetector showed that reports of access problems began rising sharply around 1:15 p.m., with more than 10,000 complaints recorded within a short period. Users attempting to open the platform encountered loading failures or were completely unable to connect.

Despite the widespread access problems, some functions appeared to remain partially operational. Findings indicated that while users could not open the platform through browsers or the mobile application, push notifications were still being delivered to devices, suggesting that certain backend systems continued to function even as the main interface remained inaccessible.

Cause remains unclear as X is yet to issue official response

The exact cause of the outage was not immediately known, and the company had not released an official statement explaining the disruption as of the time of reporting. The absence of immediate clarification left users speculating about possible technical failures, server issues, or infrastructure-related problems.

Global outages of major social media platforms often disrupt communication flows, particularly for journalists, businesses, and public institutions that rely on such platforms for real-time engagement. The platform has remained a critical channel for breaking news, public announcements, and online conversations.

The incident also highlighted the scale of the platform’s global reach, as outages quickly became noticeable across different regions. Users took to alternative platforms to confirm the disruption and share their experiences.

The outage comes amid continued scrutiny of the platform’s performance and infrastructure following major operational changes introduced since Musk acquired the company. While access disruptions are typically resolved within hours, users and observers continue to monitor the situation for updates and restoration of full service.
