Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that he has endorsed any candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
Speaking to party delegates and supporters during the PDP national convention in Abuja, Wike cautioned against what he described as misleading narratives circulating on social media about his alleged support for specific aspirants.
“I have been hearing people say that I have endorsed them; it’s their business. I have not promised anybody anything,” he said, urging political actors to disregard such claims.
While distancing himself from the governorship race, Wike clarified that his only political commitment ahead of the 2027 elections is his support for President Bola Tinubu.
“The only commitment I have made on behalf of myself and my family is that I am going to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated, adding that no aspirant should claim his backing without direct communication.
He further noted that decisions regarding the Rivers governorship race would be made collectively with party leaders at the appropriate time, rather than through individual endorsements.

“At the appropriate time, we will meet, look at ourselves eyeball to eyeball, and tell ourselves the truth,” he said, warning that political pressure or inducement would not influence his position.
Wike insists PDP remains united despite ongoing leadership disputes
Wike’s remarks come amid his ongoing political rift with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara over control of the state’s political structure.
The former governor has in recent months openly criticised his successor, accusing him of betrayal and vowing to play a decisive role in determining the state’s political leadership ahead of 2027.
