President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a set of major infrastructure projects in Lagos, reinforcing the state’s role as a model for urban development and economic expansion.

The projects, unveiled during his two-day visit, include the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System (LAGIS) Building, and a new multi-agency administrative complex in Alausa.

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu described the developments as more than just physical structures, framing them instead as symbols of governance focused on impact and service delivery.

At the centre of the commissioning is the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge, a 5.04-kilometre project designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of the city. According to the president, improved mobility is directly tied to economic productivity in a fast-growing urban centre like Lagos.

He added that the projects reflect a broader national vision of building a modern, infrastructure-driven economy capable of supporting business growth and improving living standards.

Mobility, data, and governance take centre stage

Much of the focus at the event was on how infrastructure can reshape daily life and economic activity in Lagos.

Tinubu noted that the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is a strategic intervention that will reduce travel time and unlock new economic opportunities by connecting previously congested corridors. In a city where movement is central to commerce, he argued, efficient transport systems can directly influence productivity and quality of life.

Alongside transport infrastructure, the LAGIS Building signals a shift towards data-driven governance. The facility is expected to digitise land administration, reduce bottlenecks, and improve transparency in property transactions, an area long plagued by inefficiencies.

The newly commissioned administrative complex, named after Tinubu, is also positioned as a reform in public service delivery. By housing multiple government agencies in a single location, the facility is designed to improve coordination, speed, and efficiency in governance.

Together, the projects highlight a layered approach to development, combining physical infrastructure with institutional reforms.

Sanwo-Olu pushes final stretch of development agenda

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects, even as his tenure enters its final phase.

With about 416 days left in office, the governor said his administration is focused on maintaining momentum rather than slowing down, describing the period as an opportunity to intensify delivery.

He explained that the bridge project, which includes deck-on-pile structures, walkways, bicycle lanes, and solar-powered lighting, was built to address long-standing traffic challenges in the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor.

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the technical complexity of the project, noting that swampy terrain and flooding risks required advanced engineering solutions.

Beyond infrastructure, he pointed to ongoing collaborations with the federal government, including major transport and port upgrades, as part of a broader effort to position Lagos as a resilient, globally competitive city.
