Kwara Governor Orders Humanitarian Support for Woro Attack Victims

Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has ordered the immediate mobilization of humanitarian support for victims of the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area. The directive followed the governor’s visit on Thursday to commiserate with victims, the Emir of Kaiama, Muazu Omar, and residents.

Relief Measures and Military Deployment

The governor instructed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials and begin enumeration of affected families to ensure adequate support. Abdulrazaq had arrived in Kaiama on Wednesday night, accompanied by the speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, security commanders, and senior government officials.

Briefing journalists after updates from security heads and community leaders, the governor confirmed that no fewer than 75 people were killed and numerous properties were destroyed during the attack. He described the incident as a “pure massacre,” noting that the victims were targeted for refusing a foreign ideology propagated by the assailants.

Abdulrazaq prayed for the repose of the deceased and commended President Bola Tinubu for promptly deploying a battalion of soldiers to the area under Operation Savannah Shield.

“The state emergency services will immediately commence enumeration to ensure proper care and support for the affected families,” the governor said. He added that security challenges in Kwara South had largely been subdued and assured that the Kaiama axis, which extends to Kainji National Park in Niger State, would receive increased military presence over the next month.

Community Response and Hope for Peace

The Emir of Kaiama said the attackers were followers of a group known as Mahmuda, preaching a strange ideology and attacking residents who resisted it. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s swift intervention and expressed confidence that government support would restore peace and stability to the area.
