The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in Kano State have announced full readiness for the by-elections scheduled to hold on Saturday in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Constituencies.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu, said on Thursday that a joint security operation had been activated to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process across the affected areas.
He explained that security personnel had been strategically deployed to polling units, collation centres and other sensitive locations to prevent disruptions and maintain law and order during the exercise.
Adamu also announced movement restrictions in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Areas from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day. He said the restriction was necessary to minimise security risks and ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
According to him, the coordinated security arrangement involves multiple agencies working together to safeguard voters, electoral officials and election materials throughout the voting and collation process.
He added that security operatives would remain on high alert to prevent any attempt to undermine the credibility of the elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Abdu Zango, confirmed that all sensitive and non-sensitive election materials had been deployed and were ready for use.
He commended security agencies for their cooperation and preparedness, noting that the by-elections are important for restoring proper representation in the Kano State House of Assembly.
Zango said the exercise would help strengthen grassroots democracy by ensuring that residents of the affected constituencies have duly elected representatives in the state legislature.
The by-elections are being conducted to fill vacant legislative seats and reinforce democratic governance at the state level, with electoral authorities expressing confidence in a smooth and credible process.
