The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has transferred the investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a TikToker identified as Mirabel to authorities in Ogun State after confirming the incident occurred outside Lagos jurisdiction.
The agency disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that preliminary findings showed the alleged assault did not take place within Lagos State, making it legally necessary to hand over the case.
Mirabel had earlier shared emotional videos online recounting the alleged assault, which she said happened on February 15 at her residence. According to her account, she responded to a knock on her door, believing it was a neighbour, but was allegedly confronted by a stranger who forced his way inside.
She said she struggled with the intruder and later lost consciousness. When she regained awareness, she realised she had been assaulted.
The case quickly drew widespread attention on social media, prompting the Lagos DSVA to issue an initial statement acknowledging the situation and confirming efforts to reach the survivor and offer support.
In its follow-up statement, the agency revealed that it had successfully contacted a close friend of Mirabel, who confirmed that she had received medical care and had already been discharged from the hospital.

However, after reviewing the details, the agency determined that the alleged assault occurred in Ogun State, placing the matter beyond its legal authority.
Following the jurisdictional clarification, the Lagos DSVA said it had forwarded all relevant information and findings to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State to ensure the case proceeds without delay.
The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is now handling the investigation and urged the survivor to cooperate fully with investigators.
“Following our earlier statement and the widespread public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital,” the agency said.
It added that the transfer reflects inter-agency collaboration aimed at ensuring proper investigation and justice.

The DSVA also thanked members of the public who helped bring attention to the case and provided useful information, noting that public engagement played an important role in enabling a timely response.
The development highlights the importance of jurisdiction in criminal investigations and underscores ongoing cooperation between state agencies to ensure allegations of sexual violence are properly investigated and addressed.
