Leaders of the South-South caucus of the African Democratic Congress have declared support for former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi in the race for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
The decision was announced after a consultative meeting in Benin City, where party leaders from the region unanimously agreed to support Amaechi’s ambition.
Speaking on behalf of the group, John Oyegun said South-South leaders were pleased that Amaechi formally informed them of his intention to run for president.

He described Amaechi as a strong representative of the region and said leaders were ready to give him full backing in his bid.
The endorsement highlights early political alignments within the party as preparations for the 2027 presidential election begin.
The ADC has opened its presidential ticket to candidates from all parts of the country, attracting interest from several political figures.
Among those reportedly interested is Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under a different party.
The endorsement by South-South leaders signals growing competition within the ADC, as aspirants seek regional support to strengthen their chances of securing the party’s nomination.
