Vice-President Kashim Shettima has called on leaders and aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid internal conflicts and maintain unity as the party prepares for its primaries and the 2027 general elections.
In a statement titled “2027: Don’t Pull Down the Roof,” Shettima warned that divisions within the party could undermine its electoral chances, stressing the need for discipline and restraint.
He described the APC as a “family, not a battlefield,” noting that while ambition is natural in politics, it must not come at the expense of collective stability.
“Even in the most spirited family, the roof must never be pulled down because one room appears warmer than another,” he said, adding that democracy should allow competition without hostility.
The vice-president also cautioned party members against falling for external manipulation, including media narratives and vested interests that could deepen divisions within the party.
According to him, such tactics are often designed to create suspicion and turn allies into opponents before the actual contest begins.

Shettima emphasised that while the primaries would produce candidates, the general election would ultimately test the party’s unity.
“The primaries will produce candidates, but the general election will test the strength of our unity,” he said.

He acknowledged that not all aspirants would emerge victorious, urging those who lose to show character and loyalty by supporting the party’s eventual candidates.
The vice-president further called for fairness and transparency in the primary process, encouraging members to close ranks afterwards and present a united front to voters.
