The Nyesom Wike-aligned faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is working to stabilize the party as it convenes the 86th meeting of its Board of Trustees (BoT) amid lingering leadership tensions.
BoT Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa described the gathering as a “defining moment” for the party, urging reflection, adherence to constitutional values, and the preservation of institutional memory.
He highlighted the peaceful and transparent conduct of recent ward and local government congresses, noting that upcoming state congresses would further consolidate party structures nationwide.
Preparations for the national convention, scheduled for March 29–30, were also discussed. Ohuabunwa emphasized the convention’s role in reaffirming the party’s commitment to democratic principles, unity, and national service.

He acknowledged the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of the National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, stressing that judicial pronouncements have provided clarity and stability within the party.
PDP Governors Call for Calm Ahead of Court of Appeal Ruling on Party Crisis
Mohammed reiterated the NCWC’s legitimacy as the only recognized national leadership body of the PDP and called for party stakeholders to rally around it in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
He also provided updates on the committee’s activities, including inspections of the National Stadium and a recent legal victory with nine Court of Appeal judgments in the party’s favor.
The meeting comes after a protracted leadership crisis that began in November 2025, following disputes between the Ibadan convention faction led by Kabiru Turaki and the Wike-aligned Caretaker Committee. The Court of Appeal later nullified the Ibadan convention, citing violations of the Electoral Act, the Constitution, and the PDP constitution.
Both leaders emphasized the need for unity, reconciliation, and adherence to the rule of law as the party positions itself for the 2027 elections.
