The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a detailed update on the fire incident earlier reported at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to the latest statement, all fourteen people initially trapped in the Control Tower have been successfully rescued and safely evacuated.
FAAN confirmed that six individuals: three males and three females, sustained injuries during the incident. All are in stable condition. One of the affected persons has been transferred to the FAAN Headquarters Hospital for further medical evaluation and remains stable.
As an added precaution, authorities have completely evacuated the sixth floor of the affected facility to support ongoing emergency and safety operations.
Preliminary findings from fire service officials indicate that the blaze originated in the server room on the first floor of Terminal 1.

While the fire spread to parts of the departure hall, officials say it is now largely under control. Emergency teams remain on the ground to monitor the situation and prevent any further spread to adjoining areas of the terminal.

A crane was deployed during the rescue effort to support operations at the Control Tower.
FAAN stated that the airport’s airspace remains temporarily closed in line with established safety protocols.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is working to establish a temporary Control Tower to enable the safe restoration of flight operations as soon as possible.

Authorities said all emergency procedures were promptly activated and that collaboration with relevant agencies is ongoing to safeguard lives, infrastructure, and operational integrity.
Further verified updates are expected as investigations and recovery efforts continue.
