UEFA has demoted Crystal Palace to the Europa Conference League for the 2025-26 season, awarding Nottingham Forest their Europa League spot, following a ruling on July 11, 2025, by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).

The decision stems from Crystal Palace’s breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, with the club exceeding the €30 million loss limit over three years, reporting a €45 million deficit linked to excessive transfer spending in 2024. Nottingham Forest, who finished fifth in the Premier League, will now compete in the Europa League group stage.

The CFCB imposed a one-year ban from European competitions, a €10 million fine, and a transfer embargo on Crystal Palace, who plan to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Palace’s statement expressed disappointment, citing investments in youth development, but UEFA highlighted non-compliance with sustainability rules.

Nottingham Forest, buoyed by a €50 million profit from player sales, celebrated the upgrade, with manager Nuno Espírito Santo eyeing a strong European campaign. Fans are divided, with Palace supporters decrying unfairness, while the ruling sets a precedent for FFP enforcement.
