Vice President Kashim Shettima was in Ilorin on Saturday to mourn with the government and people of Kwara State following a brutal terrorist attack that claimed dozens of lives and shattered entire communities.
His visit comes days after armed attackers stormed Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing residents and burning homes in an overnight assault that has deepened fears about insecurity spreading into rural parts of North-Central Nigeria.

Shettima arrived alongside Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, senior federal officials, and security agency leaders, underscoring the gravity of the attack and the federal government’s pledge to restore calm in the affected areas.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama, tasking the troops with leading Operation Savannah Shield, a security push aimed at flushing out terror groups and protecting vulnerable communities.

The president condemned the attack as barbaric and vowed that those responsible would be tracked down and prosecuted. He also expressed outrage that residents were targeted for refusing extremist indoctrination, insisting that Nigeria’s diversity of religious expression must never be met with violence.

At the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Shettima was received by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, members of the state executive council, and other top government officials before proceeding to meetings with local authorities.
Officials say the visit is meant to reassure grieving communities that the federal government stands with them, not just in words, but through concrete security actions aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.
