Seyi Tinubu has dismissed allegations by social media activist VeryDarkMan that he secretly financed the charitable activities of influencer King Mitchy, describing the claims as false and defamatory.
The controversy emerged from an ongoing online dispute between VeryDarkMan and King Mitchy over transparency and funding of charitable projects, including a school renovation initiative she recently showcased.
VeryDarkMan alleged that Tinubu was the hidden sponsor behind the influencer’s philanthropy and further claimed that the president’s son had threatened his life, allegations that quickly gained traction across social media.
In a series of Instagram posts, Tinubu acknowledged meeting Mitchy and providing financial support for her NGO, but insisted the gesture was transparent and made publicly.
“Let me be clear, the allegations and insinuations made about me are false,” he wrote. “I met Mitchy once, in a public setting, alongside others. On that occasion, I provided financial support for her NGO activities, as I have for many young Nigerians and organisations.”

He added that there was no secret arrangement or improper relationship, noting that a planned follow-up meeting to review the NGO’s progress did not take place due to his illness.
Tinubu emphasised that his philanthropic work spans over a decade, covering education, health, youth empowerment, and enterprise initiatives.
Tinubu also denied claims that he threatened VeryDarkMan, describing the accusation as reckless and baseless.
He accused the activist of dragging his name into a dispute he was not involved in, saying the situation was being used to damage his reputation.
“I will not accept that. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal,” he said.
