Rapper Sean Combs, widely known as Diddy, is now expected to leave prison earlier than previously scheduled after federal authorities adjusted his projected release date.
According to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, his new release date is April 25, 2028, moved forward from the previously listed June 4, 2028. The update reduces his time behind bars by approximately six weeks.
Combs is serving a 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey following convictions on prostitution-related charges. The sentence adjustment followed his enrollment in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a federal rehabilitation initiative that can allow eligible inmates to earn time off their sentences upon successful participation.
A representative for Combs stated that he has been fully engaged in the programme and committed to personal development. The spokesperson said he is focused on rehabilitation and growth while serving his sentence.

The revised timeline marks another development in Combs’ incarceration. His original projected release date was May 8, 2028, before it was later extended to June 4, 2028, after reports surfaced of alleged prison rule violations. Those reports claimed he consumed homemade alcohol and participated in an unauthorised phone call.
His legal team challenged aspects of those allegations, maintaining that the disputed phone call fell under attorney-client privilege protections. Representatives also urged caution regarding circulating rumours, noting that high-profile inmates often attract heightened scrutiny.
Before sentencing, Combs wrote a letter expressing remorse and reflecting on his conduct. He acknowledged personal failings and described his time in custody as humbling.

The music executive has been in custody since September 2024. He was convicted on two counts of transporting individuals to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges, which could have resulted in a substantially longer prison term.
In December, Combs filed an appeal seeking either immediate release or a reduction in his sentence, arguing that prosecutors did not sufficiently establish key elements of their case and that aspects of the punishment infringed on constitutional protections. Federal prosecutors formally opposed the appeal in February.

There were also reports that his legal team explored the possibility of seeking a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, who acknowledged receiving multiple pardon requests but did not indicate whether any action would be taken.
As his appeal proceeds, the revised release date reflects the potential impact of rehabilitation programmes within the federal prison system.
