Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (Discos) have warned of possible legal action against the military over alleged vandalization of infrastructure belonging to Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC).
According to reports, armed personnel were involved in an incident that led to extensive damage to electrical installations at an IKEDC facility in Lagos, causing disruptions in power supply.
Speaking on the matter, a senior executive from the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) condemned the act and demanded accountability.
“This kind of reckless destruction of public infrastructure is unacceptable. The military must take responsibility for its actions, and if no resolution is reached, we will not hesitate to take legal action,” the official stated.
Stakeholders in the power sector have called for urgent reforms to protect electricity assets from unlawful interference, emphasizing that such incidents undermine Nigeria’s efforts to stabilize power supply.
