Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced that the Osun State Government is expanding the use of technology to strengthen governance, infrastructure management, and public safety, as part of efforts to position the state as a digital innovation hub.
Adeleke made this known on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the maiden Osun Digital Festival in Osogbo, where he outlined several initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing security through technology.
He said the government is implementing the Osun Smart Resident ID system to improve planning, service delivery, and coordination of security operations across the state. According to him, the digital identity system will help authorities manage resources more efficiently while strengthening public safety monitoring.
The governor also disclosed that the state had reactivated its emergency call centre, allowing residents to access emergency services through a toll-free number. In addition, the government is deploying surveillance cameras under the Osun Safe City Initiative to improve crime monitoring and response in strategic locations.
Adeleke said the administration is also expanding internet connectivity through the Imole WiFi project, which aims to increase public internet access across communities and support digital inclusion.

Beyond security and connectivity, Adeleke revealed that the state is developing a regulatory and operational framework for emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and blockchain. He said the framework, supported by the State Digital Protection Act and a proposed State AI Act, will enable secure digital certification, trusted government transactions, and automated public services through a redesigned government digital platform.
He added that the government has automated key administrative processes, including payroll, land administration, and certification systems, to reduce delays, improve transparency, and enhance the ease of doing business.
Special Adviser on Science and Technology, Azeez Badmus, said the administration has prioritised broadband expansion beyond major towns to ensure equal access to digital opportunities across local government areas. He noted that automation of public services and digitalisation of investment platforms are already improving efficiency and transparency in government operations.
Adeleke also announced the launch of AlphaStart Hub, the state’s first government-owned innovation hub designed to support startup founders and digital entrepreneurs. He said additional hubs will be established across the three senatorial districts, with the main centre located at Osun Digital City.
In the education sector, the governor unveiled plans to introduce Imole EduPod, a solar-powered digital learning hub equipped with offline computer-based testing facilities and internet connectivity. The initiative is expected to expand access to digital education while supporting sustainable energy use.

He further pledged financial support for emerging technology businesses, saying grants and funding assistance will be provided from the next fiscal year to help startups grow and contribute to the state’s economy.
The Osun State Government has in recent years emphasised its ambition to become a technology and innovation hub, with officials saying digital transformation is central to improving governance, creating jobs, and driving long-term economic development.
