Governor Dapo Abiodun has rewarded outstanding educator Solanke Francis Taiwo with a brand new car after he emerged as Nigeria’s Overall Best Primary School Teacher.
The presentation took place at the governor’s office in Abeokuta, where the teacher received the vehicle in recognition of his exceptional contribution to education. Taiwo teaches at Ansa-Ur-Deen Main School I in the Kemta Lawa area of the Ogun State capital and had earlier distinguished himself at both state and national levels.
The award ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, who described the honour as a celebration of dedication, professionalism and impact in shaping young learners.
Officials say the teacher’s national recognition reflects the success of recent reforms introduced to strengthen the state’s education system. According to the Commissioner for Education, the achievement validates ongoing investments aimed at improving teaching quality, infrastructure and learning outcomes.
He explained that Ogun State’s education revitalisation strategy focuses on multiple areas, including teacher welfare, curriculum upgrades, school management and the integration of technology into classrooms.
Over the past few years, these reforms have reportedly contributed to improved performance among teachers and students in both national and regional competitions.

The commissioner noted that Taiwo’s journey to becoming Nigeria’s top primary school teacher began with earlier victories at state-level competitions, before he went on to secure the national title in Abuja.
Governor Abiodun said rewarding excellence is part of a broader effort to encourage teachers to remain committed to delivering quality education. He emphasised that recognising outstanding educators helps motivate others and reinforces the importance of teachers in national development.
Beyond symbolic recognition, the state government has also introduced training programmes, workshops and digital learning tools to support teachers’ professional growth.
Education officials added that Ogun State has made significant progress in modernising its system, including expanding technical and vocational education programmes and introducing digital platforms to improve teaching and learning.

These efforts have attracted attention from other states and federal education authorities, some of whom are studying Ogun’s model as a possible blueprint for reform.
Reacting to the honour, Taiwo expressed appreciation to the state government for recognising his work. He described the award as both encouraging and motivating, noting that it strengthens his commitment to delivering his best in the classroom.
He also praised the government’s investments in education, saying they have helped create a more supportive environment for teachers and students alike.

The educator encouraged his colleagues across the country to remain passionate about their profession, emphasising that teachers play a critical role in shaping future generations.
For Ogun State, the recognition not only celebrates an individual teacher but also highlights the broader impact of sustained investment in education. Officials say the goal is to continue supporting educators and ensuring students receive the quality learning experience they deserve.
