The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a legislative aide in the Lagos State House of Assembly, over alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
According to the anti-narcotics agency, Olalekan, a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, was arrested on March 2 following intelligence reports linking him to illicit drug sales.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the agency said operatives apprehended the 45-year-old at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, after searching for the property.
During the operation, officials reportedly recovered about 40 kilogrammes of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from one of the rooms in the house.
NDLEA said Olalekan admitted ownership of both the seized substance and the property where it was discovered.
The agency also confirmed that the suspect had previously served two terms as a councillor representing the Orimedu community in the local government council.
The anti-drug agency did not specify the exact office Olalekan currently occupies as a legislative aide in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
His arrest is the latest in a series of operations targeting suspected drug trafficking activities in the Lekki area of Lagos.

In February, NDLEA also arrested Kolapo Oladapo, a Lagos-based real estate executive associated with Trans Fortress Global Resources, in connection with an alleged drug trafficking network.
Authorities say the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution rings operating in parts of the state.
