Liverpool thrash West Ham United 5–2 to strengthen top-four push

Liverpool strengthened their push for a top-four finish with a commanding 5–2 victory over West Ham United in an entertaining encounter on Saturday.

The hosts made a perfect start when Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing confidently after receiving a precise pass from Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool maintained control of the match and doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Virgil van Dijk, who rose highest to head home Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner.

Liverpool extended their advantage further just before halftime, with Alexis Mac Allister producing a clinical volley to make it 3–0 and put the match firmly in their control.

West Ham showed signs of resistance early in the second half when Tomas Soucek converted Malick Diouf’s cross in the 49th minute to reduce the deficit. However, Liverpool responded strongly, with Cody Gakpo restoring their three-goal cushion in the 70th minute after his effort took a deflection on its way into the net.

The win moves Liverpool to 48 points, level with Manchester United, and they could move above their rivals depending on United’s result against Crystal Palace.

Everton secure dramatic away victory at Newcastle

In another exciting fixture, Everton defeated Newcastle United 3–2 in a closely contested match.

Everton took the lead in the 19th minute through Jarrad Branthwaite, but Newcastle responded with an equaliser from Jacob Ramsey. Beto restored Everton’s advantage before halftime, ensuring the visitors went into the break ahead.

Newcastle fought back again late in the match, with Jacob Murphy scoring in the 82nd minute to level the game. However, Everton responded almost immediately, with Thierno Barry scoring less than a minute later to seal a dramatic win.
