The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially set 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025 academic session, a decision reached on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, during the Policy Meeting on Admissions.
The meeting, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja and chaired by Education Minister Tunji Alausa, involved university vice-chancellors and other stakeholders to establish admission guidelines. This cut-off, an increase from 140 set in 2024, was determined after extensive deliberations to standardize entry requirements, though specific institutions may adjust based on their capacities.
JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede announced the decision, noting it aligns with the boardās ongoing efforts to maintain academic standards while accommodating a significant number of applicants. The policy meeting, a yearly event, also addressed cut-offs for other institutions, setting 120 for polytechnics and colleges of education, though these figures are subject to institutional discretion.
No precise candidate registration numbers for 2025 were disclosed, but the 2024 UTME saw 1.94 million registrations, providing context for the decisionās impact. Reactions from educational bodies are pending, with the policy effective for the 2025/2026 admission cycle, and further details expected in an official JAMB release later this week.
