Gunmen have killed Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, after abducting him from his residence in a late-evening attack that has heightened fears among residents.
Police authorities confirmed the incident on Thursday, describing it as a targeted assault carried out by armed men who invaded the monarch’s palace and forcibly took him away before killing him.
According to police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh, the attack occurred on Wednesday evening when about six armed men stormed the monarch’s residence in Ahungha Village, Agamo area, at approximately 7:10 p.m. The assailants reportedly overpowered anyone present, seized the traditional ruler, and fled the compound.
Authorities said the monarch was later found a few metres from his residence with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The police said the report was first received around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, prompting an immediate security response. The killing has shocked residents and intensified concerns about security in rural communities across the state.

Community sources indicated that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and operated for several minutes without resistance before escaping through nearby bush paths, suggesting a coordinated and deliberate operation.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer and tactical teams were deployed alongside local security outfits, including Amotekun operatives, local hunters, and vigilante groups, to comb the surrounding forests and neighbouring areas in search of the perpetrators.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible, assuring residents that all available resources are being deployed to bring the attackers to justice.
The command also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in identifying and arresting the suspects, emphasising the importance of community cooperation in tackling violent crimes.
