Governor of Nasir Idris has pledged to deliver Kebbi State for Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, signalling early political alignment and mobilisation within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the declaration on Monday in Birnin Kebbi shortly after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting involving key political figures and party leaders in the state. Although the meeting itself focused broadly on party unity and internal matters, Idris’ comments offered a clear glimpse into the APC’s early strategy ahead of the next election cycle.
Speaking to journalists, the governor emphasised that the gathering was part of ongoing consultations within the party to address issues affecting its structure and performance at both state and national levels. While he noted that detailed resolutions from the meeting would be communicated through the state’s Commissioner for Information, he left little ambiguity about the party’s political direction.
According to him, the APC remains firmly rooted in Kebbi, with widespread support among the electorate. He expressed confidence that this backing would translate into electoral success for the party in 2027, both in the state and at the federal level.
Idris framed his remarks within a broader narrative of continuity, suggesting that the APC’s governance track record has strengthened its acceptance among residents. His comments also reflect a growing trend among governors and political stakeholders aligning early with the president ahead of what is expected to be a competitive election cycle.
Although the 2027 elections are still some distance away, Idris’ statement underscores how political positioning is already taking shape across Nigeria. Public endorsements such as this often serve as signals to party loyalists, potential aspirants, and opposition groups about where power structures are consolidating.
The meeting in Birnin Kebbi drew several influential figures, including Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, and Yusuf Tanko-Sununu. Their presence highlights the weight of the discussions and suggests coordination between federal appointees and state-level actors within the APC.

Other notable attendees included former governors, lawmakers, and party executives, all of whom play critical roles in shaping electoral outcomes through grassroots mobilisation and policy influence.
Beyond the headline pledge, the governor’s remarks point to a broader focus on party cohesion and grassroots engagement. By describing the APC as firmly established in Kebbi, Idris sought to reinforce the idea of stability within the party, especially at a time when internal disputes have affected political parties in other parts of the country.
His confidence in the electorate’s loyalty also hints at ongoing efforts to strengthen connections with voters, a key factor in determining electoral success. Political observers note that early endorsements and coordinated messaging can help solidify support bases, discourage internal dissent, and set the tone for campaign narratives.

While Idris stopped short of outlining specific campaign strategies, his comments suggest that the APC in Kebbi is already laying the groundwork for 2027. As political activities gradually intensify nationwide, similar declarations from other states could further shape the dynamics of the upcoming election.
