Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, says the proposed FCT University of Science and Technology in Abaji will begin operations during the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made this known on Tuesday while addressing residents in Abaji, where he visited to thank the community for supporting candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress during the February 21 area council elections.
According to him, the FCT Administration has already started putting infrastructure and other key facilities in place to enable the university to take off.
The minister said the institution is expected to play a significant role in the development of Abaji and the wider FCT, particularly through job creation and economic opportunities for residents.
He urged the community to remain patient, assuring them that the federal government is committed to ensuring the project becomes operational within the current administration.
Wike noted that discussions with residents had shown how important the university project is to the community and the territory as a whole, adding that the institution would also open up the area for further development.

During the visit, the minister also acknowledged the support given to President Tinubu in the area council elections, describing politics as a system that requires both leaders and citizens to fulfil their commitments.
He said residents had delivered strong electoral support for the president and his party across nearly all polling units in the council, adding that the government would reciprocate by delivering development projects.

Responding to requests from community leaders, Wike promised to address gully erosion affecting two communities and revive an abandoned 15-kilometre road connecting other parts of the area.

He also pledged to construct the Gurara Market bridge after a request from youths in the community.
Earlier, the outgoing chairman of the Abaji Area Council, Abubakar Abdullahi, said the area had experienced limited federal government presence before Wike became minister.
According to him, several development projects initiated since Wike assumed office have helped improve infrastructure and strengthen residents’ sense of belonging within the Federal Capital Territory.
