Eko Disco to Distribute Free Meters to Band A Customers

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has commenced the distribution of free prepaid meters to Band A customers under the federal government-backed Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) scheme.

This initiative aims to bridge the metering gap, curb estimated billing, and improve electricity service delivery.

According to a statement by EKEDC’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, Babatunde Lasaki, the exercise will span 60 days and will prioritize replacing obsolete meters while ensuring unmetered Band A customers receive free prepaid meters.

Lasaki clarified that the MAF scheme, while targeted at Band A customers in its first phase, will extend to other customer categories in subsequent tranches. He encouraged eligible customers to apply online for replacements or new installations.

While this scheme offers significant relief to consumers, Lasaki stressed that it runs alongside the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) program, which allows customers to purchase meters with the option of a refund over time. This dual approach is part of broader government efforts to enhance electricity distribution and billing transparency across Nigeria.
