The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops to step up operations against insurgents, calling for renewed commitment to honour fallen soldiers and sustain momentum in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Speaking during an operational visit to Yobe State, the army chief said the military remained determined to defeat security threats across the country despite recent attacks on troop positions. His visit included a battlefield assessment and morale-boosting engagements with personnel on the frontlines.

In a statement issued by army spokesperson Appolonia Anele, Shaibu emphasised that the Nigerian Army would continue to adapt its strategies in response to evolving threats.

“The Nigerian Army will remain aggressive and adaptive in responding to evolving threats across various theatres of operation,” he said.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made by soldiers, particularly those who lost their lives in recent operations, and urged troops to channel their grief into renewed determination on the battlefield.

The visit comes at a time when security forces are recalibrating tactics to address persistent insurgency in the North-East, with the army leadership insisting that ongoing operational adjustments are already producing results.

During his engagement with troops at Sector 2 headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu, Shaibu charged soldiers to remain resolute and intensify offensive actions against terrorists.

He stressed that achieving lasting peace would require sustained collaboration between the military, government institutions, and local communities.

The army chief also commended the government and people of Yobe State for their continued support to security operations, noting that such cooperation plays a crucial role in stabilising affected regions.

Governors pledge backing amid rising security concerns

Shaibu was received on arrival in Damaturu by representatives of Governor Mai Mala Buni, including Deputy Governor Idi Gubana, at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport.

In separate remarks, the Yobe governor praised the army’s resilience and sacrifices, offering prayers for fallen soldiers whom he described as heroes.

The renewed push by military leadership reflects ongoing efforts to regain the upper hand against insurgent groups, even as the conflict continues to evolve across multiple fronts.
