The Anambra State Government has approved contracts worth about ₦604 million for road and infrastructure projects across the state, as preparations intensify for the second-term swearing-in of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
The approvals were part of decisions reached at the second 2026 meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Light House in Awka. The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed that three major events have been scheduled for the inauguration.
According to the government, an interdenominational church service will take place on March 15, followed by the formal swearing-in ceremony on March 17, and a thanksgiving service on March 22. Several subcommittees have been constituted to ensure smooth coordination of the events.
The council also reviewed and welcomed the sentencing of Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as “Akwa Ọkụkụ Tiwara Akị”. It noted the destruction of his shrine and ritual objects as part of what it described as efforts toward moral and social rebirth in the state.

In another decision, Ekwueme Square in Awka was designated strictly for government functions. Private events previously held at the venue will now be redirected to the Multipurpose Arena at the Awka Township Stadium.
Among the projects approved is the release of N164.39 million as cost overrun for the construction of an IAAF-standard five-lane track and natural grass pitch at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex.
The council also approved N72.63 million for road marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the 10.043-kilometre Afor Nkpor–Eke Obosi Road. Additionally, N121.95 million was approved for the supply and installation of 10 units of 40-foot containers to serve as temporary accommodation for security personnel across various locations.

Further approvals include N172.19 million for asphalt surfacing of the internal dual carriage driveway at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Awka, and N175.39 million for asphalt work on the service lane to the State House of Assembly and High Court Complex in Awka.

The latest approvals follow earlier contracts reportedly awarded in January valued at about ₦16.7 billion for roads, electricity, and other key infrastructure projects. The government said the investments are aimed at strengthening social cohesion, boosting economic growth, and improving living standards across Anambra State.
