The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has accused a local vigilante group allegedly linked to the Ikwerre Local Government Area council of attacking former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 6 in Ubima, Amaechi’s hometown, where members of the party said both the former minister and the ADC secretariat were targeted.
Speaking in a radio interview, ADC state chairman Samson Leader alleged that individuals linked to a local vigilante group known as OSPAC blocked a road using a vehicle reportedly provided by the local government council.
He called on security agencies to invite and question Charles Wobodo, chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, over the alleged involvement of individuals connected to the council.

According to the party, the roadblock appeared aimed at preventing Amaechi from reaching Ubima to complete party membership registration activities.

The ADC leadership also criticised the response of the state government, accusing Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, of failing to publicly address the incident several days after it occurred.
Party officials argued that the state government, as the authority responsible for security, should have responded more quickly and initiated an investigation into the alleged attack.
Amaechi, who previously served as governor of Rivers State, also used the occasion to criticise what he described as declining governance in the state.
During his visit to Port Harcourt, he pointed to large refuse dumps on major roads as evidence of poor oversight, suggesting that sanitation contractors were either not being paid or were not being adequately supervised by the authorities.
The former governor said such conditions reflected broader governance challenges that had emerged in the state after his tenure ended.
