Eze Chukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chairmanship candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, has announced that he will not challenge the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Maikalangu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Chukwu said he would not contest the outcome “for any reason whatsoever,” stressing that elections are about service to the people rather than personal ambition. He described the poll as peaceful and orderly, noting that the level of safety observed during the campaign and on election day was “a victory for democracy.”
Commitment to Lawful Processes
Chukwu, who also serves as APGA national youth leader and chairs the Forum of National Youth Leaders of All Political Parties in Nigeria, urged all citizens and political actors to seek redress only through lawful channels. He emphasized that while APGA did not secure victory in AMAC, elections remain a mechanism to serve society, and public service should never be equated with political office alone.
He further encouraged the incoming administration to govern with fairness, unity, and inclusiveness, ensuring that the council’s policies and projects benefit all residents, regardless of their political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.

Pledge of Support and Service
Acknowledging the role of a principled campaign, Chukwu thanked his supporters for their discipline and commitment. He reaffirmed his personal dedication to youth empowerment, good governance, and community development, noting that service to society does not end with the conclusion of an election.
He also pledged to collaborate with the new administration, where possible, to advance programs that enhance education, infrastructure, and social welfare in AMAC.
According to Chukwu, constructive engagement between political parties, community leaders, and residents is essential for building a functional and inclusive local government.

Encouraging Active Citizen Participation
Chukwu used the statement to remind residents that democracy thrives on active participation, not apathy. He called on citizens to remain engaged in decision-making processes and local governance, emphasizing that their involvement is key to national and community development.

He also urged the APC-led administration to be magnanimous in victory, stressing that good leadership is measured not only by policy outcomes but by respect for opposition voices, inclusiveness, and responsiveness to community needs.
In closing, Chukwu commended AMAC residents for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the election process and prayed for continued progress and development in the council. His decision to accept the results and advocate for lawful engagement underscores a commitment to democratic principles and responsible leadership in Nigeria’s capital territory.
