Governor Babagana Zulum has donated ₦150 million to the families of three military officers killed in recent attacks by Boko Haram, as part of efforts to support victims of Nigeria’s ongoing insurgency.
The donations were made during condolence visits to the families of the fallen officers, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.
The officers were killed during counter-insurgency operations in Maiduguri, a region that has remained at the centre of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.
During the visits, Zulum personally met with relatives of the deceased officers, including the families of Umar Farouq, Salihu Iliyasu, and Aliyu Saidu Paiko, presenting ₦50 million to each household.
He first visited the family of Iliyasu in Abuja, where he was received by the officer’s wives, before travelling to Niger State and Kano State to deliver the remaining cheques.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” Zulum said, describing the late officers as dedicated and committed to national service.
Beyond financial assistance, the governor also announced scholarship programmes for the children of the deceased, as well as support for families of volunteer forces who died in the line of duty.

He praised the fallen officers for their “gallantry, patriotism, and sacrifices,” noting that their contributions would not be forgotten.
Zulum further revealed plans to visit other families of security personnel killed or missing in action, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to standing by those who have paid the ultimate price in defending the country.

The gesture highlights ongoing efforts by state authorities to cushion the impact of insurgency on military families, even as Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent security challenges in the northeast.
