FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declined to reveal specifics of a peace deal brokered with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following President Bola Tinubu’s mediation in June.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Wike stated, “The details are confidential to ensure stability in Rivers; I won’t disclose them.” The deal, finalized after a closed-door meeting on June 28 at the Presidential Villa, ended a 20-month political crisis that saw the bombing of the Rivers House of Assembly and 1,000 kidnappings in 2024.

Wike, who reconciled with Fubara after tensions over local government control, emphasized unity, saying, “We’ve agreed to work together for Rivers’ $10 billion economy.” The agreement lifted Fubara’s suspension, imposed in March 2025, and restored 90% of state allocations, but rumors of a single-term condition for Fubara persist, denied by both.

The state allocated N200 million for post-crisis reconstruction, with 60% of Rivers’ 7 million residents welcoming the truce. Critics, including PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, demand transparency, but Wike plans a N1 billion development launch by Q4, targeting 10% GDP growth.
