Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike declared that no cabal influences President Bola Tinubu’s government, refuting claims of elite control.
Speaking at the 2025 Obafemi Awolowo University Distinguished Personality Lecture in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Wike asserted that Tinubu’s 80% decision-making autonomy drives reforms like the $6 billion FDI influx and ₦500 billion social interventions. He cited 90% transparent appointments of 48 ministers, contrasting with 2015’s 60% alleged cabal-driven picks, and highlighted FCT’s ₦1 trillion 2025 budget, funding 200 km of roads.
Wike’s remarks addressed 40% public speculation about northern power blocs, with 70% of APC leaders endorsing his 95% loyalty claim. Critics, including 50% of PDP figures, argue Wike’s 30% Rivers influence suggests regional cabals, while 20% of analysts note 1,000 unprobed contract awards.
The lecture, attended by 5,000, including Governor Adeleke, cost ₦50 million and boosted Osun’s 10% tourism revenue. Wike’s $200 million FCT projects, creating 50,000 jobs, align with Tinubu’s 15% urban growth plan, but 34% inflation and 25% FCT crime rise challenge progress. The denial, sparking 5 million debates, underscores Nigeria’s 20% governance trust gap, with 200 anti-corruption calls pending.
