The West African Examinations Council has released the first batch of results for the 2026 computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates, with thousands of candidates participating across Nigeria.

According to the council, a total of 10,480 candidates sat for the examination held between January 28 and February 14, 2026, across 166 centres nationwide. This represents a slight increase in registration compared to the previous year, with 10,523 candidates originally enrolling for the exam.

Out of those who sat for the test, 3,429 candidates, representing 32.72 percent, obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, a key benchmark for academic progression.

Participation Figures Show Gender and Inclusion Spread

WAEC noted that 5,106 male candidates and 5,374 female candidates took part in the examination, reflecting a marginally higher female participation rate at 51.28 percent.

The examination body also highlighted the participation of 43 candidates with special needs, including visually impaired candidates, hearing-impaired candidates, and candidates with albinism, underscoring efforts toward inclusivity in national examinations.

While 8,418 candidates have had their results fully processed and released, 2,062 candidates, about 19.68 percent, are still awaiting full processing due to errors attributed to them during the examination process.

WAEC stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure that all outstanding results are completed and released promptly to affected candidates.

Malpractice Cases Under Investigation

The council also confirmed that the results of 75 candidates have been withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.

It added that these cases are currently under investigation and will be reviewed by the appropriate WAEC committee before final decisions are communicated directly to the affected candidates.
