President Bola Tinubu pledged not to fail Nasarawa State residents during a tour of infrastructure projects in Lafia on June 25, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to their welfare. The visit focused on inspecting a $400 million minerals processing plant and rural roads, underscoring efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy.
Joined by Governor Abdullahi Sule, Tinubu commissioned a 50-km road network connecting 10 communities, funded by a ₦10 billion federal grant. The minerals plant, set to process lithium and tin, is expected to create 5,000 jobs and generate $200 million in annual exports. Tinubu addressed insecurity concerns, noting the deployment of 2,000 troops to curb banditry, which killed 300 in Nasarawa in 2024.
The tour follows Tinubu’s criticized June 18 Benue visit, prompting a more subdued approach in Nasarawa. Sule announced a state-federal partnership for a 1,000-hectare irrigation scheme by 2026, addressing 30% food inflation. Analysts view the visit as a strategic move to bolster APC’s influence in Nasarawa ahead of the 2027 elections.
