Security operatives in Kebbi State have foiled a cattle-rustling operation by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Bunza Local Government Area, stopping the attackers in their tracks after an overnight raid on a rural community.
The bandits reportedly stormed Tungan Babu Lada village, where they shot and killed a 35-year-old man, Usman Ferungu, before fleeing with stolen cattle. Their escape, however, was short-lived as a joint team of police, military personnel, and other security agencies launched a rapid pursuit.

According to police authorities, operatives tracked the suspects to Garin Mayo Mine, where they were intercepted and engaged in a gunfight. One of the attackers was neutralised during the exchange, while four motorcycles believed to have been used for the raid were recovered at the scene.

The swift operation, police said, disrupted the group’s movement and prevented further violence in surrounding communities, which have recently faced increased threats from armed criminal gangs targeting livestock and vulnerable settlements.

The Kebbi State Police Command said aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations would continue across the state as part of efforts to deny criminal groups freedom of movement. The command added that residents play a crucial role in security response and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening community safety and maintaining pressure on bandit networks operating in remote parts of the state, stressing that coordinated action among security agencies remains central to containing rural crime.
