Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on Muslims in Lagos to sustain the virtues of discipline, humility, and generosity cultivated during Ramadan, stressing that these values remain vital for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state.
He made this known on Saturday at the Eid-el-Fitr celebration organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs at Lagos House, Ikeja, where he was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
Sanwo-Olu described Eid-el-Fitr as more than a celebration marking the end of fasting, noting that it is a reminder of the deeper lessons of Ramadan, including sacrifice, compassion, and renewed devotion to God.
According to him, these values are not only central to faith but are also necessary for building a more harmonious and progressive society. He added that his administration remains committed to fostering an environment where peace, unity, and shared prosperity can thrive.
The governor urged Muslims to carry the spirit of Ramadan beyond the festive period, emphasising the need for continued support for one another and a collective commitment to justice and development.
He said strengthening bonds of brotherhood and working together as a community would help secure a more stable and prosperous future for the state.

In her remarks, the governor’s wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, congratulated Muslim faithful on completing Ramadan and encouraged them to live purpose-driven lives rooted in service, kindness, and devotion to God.
She noted that while Eid is a time for celebration, it is equally a moment for reflection on the lessons learned during the holy month. According to her, values such as sacrifice, discipline, and generosity should remain guiding principles in everyday life.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu also stressed the importance of unity across religious and cultural lines, describing Lagos as a state whose strength lies in its diversity and shared commitment to progress. She urged residents to continue supporting the less privileged and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The event also featured an Eid lecture delivered by Ridwannuallah Jamiu, Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, who emphasised the need for steadfast obedience to Allah and aligning daily conduct with religious teachings.

Prayers were offered for the state by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religion, Abdullah Jebe, while the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, thanked participants and encouraged them to leave with renewed faith and a stronger commitment to peace and service.
Overall, the gathering reinforced a central message that the true essence of Ramadan lies not just in observance, but in sustaining its values long after the holy month has ended.
