Residents of several communities in Kwara State have begun fleeing their homes after suspected terrorists issued threats of fresh attacks in a viral letter, triggering widespread panic across affected areas.
The warning, reportedly discovered at Ira Market in Oyun Local Government Area, has forced many residents of Ira, Inaja, and Aho communities to seek safety elsewhere amid fears of imminent violence.
Although authorities say the letter has not yet been verified, its circulation has heightened tension in communities already shaken by recent deadly attacks.
The letter, allegedly issued by a group identifying itself as the Nigeria Terrorist Association, began circulating on social media after it was reportedly found in a public location earlier in the week. The message warned of planned attacks, prompting residents to take precautionary steps.
Several residents, speaking anonymously, said fear and uncertainty had made it impossible to continue normal life. Many families have begun relocating, citing concerns over their safety and the unpredictability of the threat.
One resident said preparations to leave the community had already been completed, noting that daily life had been disrupted since the letter surfaced. Others described a growing atmosphere of fear, with many unwilling to risk remaining in areas that could be targeted.

The situation has worsened anxieties following recent attacks in neighbouring communities, where terrorists reportedly carried out deadly assaults and kidnappings.
Security agencies have intensified patrols and deployed additional personnel to the affected communities in response to the threat. The police confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the authenticity and origin of the letter.
Authorities said intelligence units are analysing the message while working with other security organisations, including the State Security Service, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to prevent potential attacks.

Local government officials have also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious activity. They reassured the public that steps are being taken to strengthen security presence and protect vulnerable communities.
The latest development highlights the continuing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where threats of attacks, whether verified or not, can disrupt communities, trigger displacement, and deepen fears among residents already living under persistent insecurity.
