Documents from the U.S. Justice Department reveal that Okey Enelamah, then Nigeria’s trade minister, met Jeffrey Epstein as part of discussions on developing a seaport in Badagry, Lagos. Jide Zeitlin, a former Goldman Sachs partner, arranged the meeting.
Despite Epstein’s 2008 conviction for molesting minors, he remained connected with high-profile figures. Zeitlin engaged Epstein in talks about seaport development and introduced Enelamah to him at the World Economic Forum.
Enelamah’s interaction with Epstein was limited to official discussions. Following media inquiries, Enelamah’s representatives clarified that he was not involved in any criminal activity related to Epstein.

Enelamah’s tenure as trade minister had been marked by allegations of corruption. He faced scrutiny over a $13 billion repatriation claim with MTN and the alleged diversion of N42 billion linked to the Nigeria Special Economic Zone project, which he denied.
Zeitlin, who facilitated the meeting, was a former CEO of Tapestry (parent company of Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman). His career ended after a double identity scandal surfaced, revealing he had secretly photographed women under a false identity. The scandal also cost him a U.S. ambassadorship nomination.

While the connection raised eyebrows, Enelamah maintained that his engagement with Epstein was strictly in his official capacity as trade minister and unrelated to Epstein’s criminal acts.
The Peoples Gazette highlighted that Enelamah initially promised a response to the story but did not provide further comment.
