Peter Okoye Threatens Legal Action Over Defamatory Post About Late Mother

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has threatened to take legal action against a social media user over comments made about his late mother, Josephine Okoye.

The confrontation began after the user posted a picture of Okoye’s mother on X, accompanied by an accusatory caption claiming she “fought bitterly” to stop her son from marrying “a Yoruba woman.”

In response, Okoye described the post as “unacceptable and deeply hurtful,” demanding its removal and an apology. He warned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings.

Singer Demands Immediate Retraction

“This post about my late mother is unacceptable and deeply hurtful,” Okoye wrote on X. “You’ve crossed the line. Take it down and apologise immediately, or I will take legal action. This madness on social media must stop.”

The singer’s firm response highlights ongoing concerns about defamatory content and harassment on social media platforms, particularly when it involves private family matters.

Peter Okoye is one-half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, alongside his twin brother Paul Okoye. Over the years, he has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s music industry, even after the group’s split.

Okoye married Lola Omotayo in 2013 after a seven-year relationship. His mother, Josephine Okoye, passed away in 2012 following heart surgery in India, leaving a lasting impact on the singer.
