The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also receiving five federal lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The endorsement was announced during a party gathering on Saturday, where APC leaders praised Tinubu’s administration and called on party members and residents of the state to support his re-election bid. The event also marked a political shift in the state as federal legislators previously elected on the PDP platform formally joined the APC.
Party leaders said the development reflects growing support for the APC in Osun and strengthens its chances in both the 2027 presidential election and the upcoming governorship contest in the state.

The motion endorsing Tinubu for a second term was moved by former Osun Secretary to the State Government, Sola Akinwumi, and seconded by party chieftain Shuaib Oyedokun, both of whom described the president’s performance as deserving of continued leadership.
Speaking at the event, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru pointed to improvements in national revenue and increased allocations to states and local governments, which he said had enabled more development projects.
Also addressing party members, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Tinubu administration. He said foreign exchange stability had improved and fuel importation had declined, while new investment commitments exceeding $50 billion signalled renewed international confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

Oyetola added that the introduction of a ₦70,000 national minimum wage, expanded student loan access, and financial support programmes for small businesses and vulnerable households demonstrated the administration’s commitment to economic recovery and social development.
He also noted ongoing infrastructure projects and increased federal allocations to state governments as evidence of progress.
The endorsement event also featured the formal defection of five federal lawmakers from the PDP to the APC, a move party leaders described as a significant political gain.
The defecting legislators, including Senator Francis Fadahunsi and other National Assembly members, cited internal disagreements within the PDP as the reason for their decision to join the ruling party. Speaking on behalf of the group, Fadahunsi expressed confidence in the APC’s leadership and pledged support for the party’s future electoral efforts.
Osun APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji welcomed the lawmakers, describing their defection as a sign of growing momentum for the party. He urged members to remain united ahead of the August governorship election and work towards restoring APC leadership in the state.

He added that the party remains focused on strengthening its grassroots support and building on what he described as the Tinubu administration’s economic and governance reforms.
The endorsement and defections come as political parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with alliances and realignments expected to shape the political landscape in Osun State and across Nigeria.
